Red State BBQ… Lexington, Kentucky

Red State BBQ is a wonderful treat right outside of Lexington, Kentucky. If you love BBQ you can’t go wrong with this unique spot. This roadside restaurant has wonderful food. You know when you can’t get into the parking lot they have something great to offer. We have eaten at Red State BBQ twice and each time has been amazing. The menu is great, with lots of different options and the sides are amazing. I have to recommend the Mac and Cheese, it is incredible!

If you are going to the Kentucky Horse Park for a day of fun,  I strongly recommend trying this little joint right around the corner on Georgetown Road. The staff is very knowledgeable and greets you with a smile! They also offer catering and have a Food Truck as well. If you don’t follow them on Facebook be sure and check them out here.

Ethereal Brewing – Distillery District…. Lexington, Kentucky

The joy of living close to Lexington is partaking in the growth of this unique town. The Distillery District is an area that is growing and the historic atmosphere is really neat. When you drive into this area it has an exciting appeal. Can’t wait for the summer months to enjoy this area even more. Ethereal Brewing is a great addition and with their craft beer selection you can’t go wrong! They also have a food truck at night for dinner. I love how the food trucks and breweries pair up to make a night out a great experience. I did try a sampler at Ethereal and my favorite was the Oatmeal Stout. However they do have a “guest tap list” that is constantly rotating so that always brings a great variety on top of their own craft beer selection. One major plus about this area is the parking. They have a huge parking lot which is always an added bonus!

CARRY A. NATION, THE ORIGINAL BAR ROOM SMASHER, BORN IN KENTUCKY

Carry Amelia Moore was born in Garrard County, Kentucky on November 25, 1846. She was born into a well-to-do family and raised in an intensely religious atmosphere. There was evidence of insanity on her mother’s side of the family. Carry’s youth was mixed with emotionalism and stern suppression. The Moores moved several times and her father lost his fortune during the Civil War. The family moved to Belton, Missouri and Carry went to school and earned a teaching certificate.

Carry fell in love with a boarder in her parent’s home, Dr. Charles Gloyd. Carry and Charles married despite her parents’ objections. Charles was a heavy drinker and his drinking quickly worsened after the marriage. Carry, pregnant with their only child, left him and returned home to her parents.
Charles drank himself to death and died at the age of 29. Carry went back to teaching and lost her job for improper pronunciation of words. She was replaced with the niece of the man that had complained about her.
Carrie prayed that God would direct her to a second husband that would be able to support her.

A FALL SUNDAY MORNING IN KENTUCKY

Fall in Kentucky is one of the most beautiful seasons of the year.  This is the front yard of a farm in Georgetown, Kentucky.  The trees are so beautiful this time of the year.  There is a quote by Shira Tamir that says, “Anyone that thinks fallen leaves are dead has never watched them dancing on a windy day.”  I think the leaves are beautiful as they flutter to the ground in the fall.  The colors on a fall day in Kentucky are like looking at a painting.  We Kentuckians are very lucky to live in such a beautiful place.
