The Kentucky Derby… Where Dreams Come True..

Juddmonte1

It is that time of year in Kentucky where everything is buzzing about the “Run for the Roses”. This is where dreams come true. There are many amazing things this wonderful state has to offer, but the fastest 2 minutes in history, on the first Saturday in May is always chilling.

Kentuckians are steep with their traditions and the Kentucky Derby is no different. The day brings mint juleps, gorgeous hats for the ladies and of course, the racehorses. Watch those beautiful animals come down the tunnel to the track at Churchill Downs and you will forever be a horse lover. Forever my friends…FOREVER.

When the marching band starts playing “My Ole Kentucky Home” every Kentucky heart will swell with pride. It’s the prancing of the horses and the prancing of our hearts that make this race something that very few words can describe.

However, for the select few that have a majestic 3 year old that will race down the backside of historic Churchill Downs, their story started years ago. From the breeder who chose their particular bloodline, to the jockey who first sat on their back, to the groom that handles them daily, they all want their horses name next to the greats that went down in history before them!

The chance of a dream coming true and the excitement of watching all of it happen….well my friends……..that’s  magic.

Lake Barkley State Resort Park.. Cadiz, Kentucky

EKLakeBarkley

Lake Barkley State Resort Park located in Cadiz, Kentucky is a wonderful place to visit. My mother and I took a spur of the moment trip to Lake Barkley last year and the tranquil feel of the lodge is so peaceful. We loved the rooms, they have a very unique cabin feel! Everything around this resort is rustic and peaceful. The buffet over looking the lake was the perfect ending to our day.  This is the perfect place to relax and see the amazing things Kentucky State Parks have to offer. I personally feel that Lake Barkley is the prettiest lake in this great state. If you have not been to this area, I highly recommend loading up the family and heading to this beautiful area of Kentucky.

Don Pedros Mexican Grill.. Lawrenceburg, Kentucky

EKDonPedrosStore

Don Pedros Mexican Grill located in Lawrenceburg, Kentucky is a wonderful prize! Mexican Food is a family favorite and this spot doesn’t disappoint. I have frequented this establishment quite a few times because I love their margaritas and their food. Not once have I had a bad experience. The staff greets you with a smile and is very attentive. The bar is adorable and would be a great place to meet for a drink after work.

The prices are very reasonable and they also have 15% off all day on Thursdays! They  have daily appetizer specials as well.  Can’t beat that! We were there last week and it looks as though they are adding a patio. Nothing better than a patio and a cold margarita.

Patio Weather… Charlie Brown’s Restaurant.. Lexington, Kentucky

EKCharlieBrownsPatio
Well it is that time of year where enjoying dinner on a patio is a main priority. We love meeting friends for a drink at Charlie Brown’s on Euclid in Lexington. Their patio, even though it sits in a parking lot has lots of appeal. It is very obvious this is very much a neighborhood bar. Many regulars at this quaint spot, which I very much enjoy. Dogs are also welcome on the patio.

The inside is just as unique with the walls lined with bookshelves and old couches for you to enjoy with family and friends. Be sure and give your eyes a moment to adjust as it is quite dark. However the cozy atmosphere of this bar and restaurant really gives it an eccentric feel. I usually meet friends for just a drink here, however I can’t go without having their hot pepper cheese. I love these little bites of heaven dipped in ranch dressing.
Be sure and check out their website and Facebook page.
