DOG DAZE AT THE KENTUCKY HORSE PARK, LEXINGTON, KENTUCKY

Many people probably don’ t know Kentucky Horse Park is a dog friendly park.

Bring your dog to the Kentucky Horse Park in Lexington, Kentucky.

Dogs and horses. Awesome.  Add a cat show to the mix and I’ve gone to heaven.

Ok, no cats at the Kentucky Horse Park but plenty of horses – 90 live on the property. Some are former famous racehorses, others pull the trolley carts that take visitors around the park twice a day and others represent various breeds and participate in the daily 2pm Breed Show educating visitors about the history and highlights of different horse types.

Victor was less interested in the Breed Show, which is the first thing we watch. He was more interested in the new smells – strong smells – and dodging the attention of a young admirer who toddled around my 11-year-old schnoodle with shaky balance and unshakable interest.

Victor loves kids, so normally I’m not concerned. But when the fondling didn’t wane…

Windy Corner Market – Lexington Kentucky

On Saturday night, the staff of Everything Kentucky ventured out in to the country….Horse Country to visit a cute, quaint little restaurant called the Windy Corner. This little country store and restaurant certainly lived up to its reputation. We’ve only ever heard good things about this place and it certainly didn’t disappoint.

When you walk in this place, country living is the immediate feel. From Kentucky Pride goodies for sale all around to the hustle and bustle of the filled tables of people eating good food and enjoying a wonderful Saturday evening, this place has a little bit of everything.

This little joint offers a wonderful menu and their dinner specials are very unique. I had the Shrimp and Grits and it was to die for. Seriously, some of the best shrimp and grits I have ever had and my family knows grits, honey!

If you have out of town guests that have never been to Lexington, I would highly recommend this for a great little lunch spot. I think this is the type of place that anyone would enjoy!

Pros: great food, helpful staff, great desserts (the cheesecake did NOT disappoint). The wait to get our food wasn’t bad and they were packed. I really, really like this place!

Cons: The only thing that I didn’t like is you walk up and order. I’ve never been a fan of ordering and then sitting down. The line was huge and you always have this one annoying person that has stood in line for 20 minutes, finally makes it to the cash register to order and STILL has no clue what they want. COME ON! This is just my preference and not a deal breaker by any means!

Definitely want t to try their breakfast, it looks really good! We will for sure be back!!

All in all, I give it 7 out of 10 bourbons! For more information check out the Windy Corner Website and Facebook Page

A Meal With the Horses

Fashioned after an old country store, Windy Corner Market and Restaurant north of Lexington is right in the middle of some of America’s legendary horse farms. The restaurant uses Kentucky ingredients in their recipes and offers Kentucky foodstuffs for sale.

Eating a meal with horses may not sound very appetizing, but let me explain. Windy Corner Market is a one-of-a-kind restaurant that is surrounded by horse farms on each side. Going there to eat almost feels like your own personal escape from the hectic life (for me, college life) you lead on a daily basis. I guess if you are not a huge horse fan, you may not find the surroundings to be so oasis-like, but you get the point.

Windy Corner Market is a restaurant I am thrilled to have stumbled upon during my search for brunch spots in/near Lexington. Although my friends and I did not make it there in time for brunch, the brunch menu sounds nothing less of amazing. I will definitely be back to try it out.
