It’s October and you know what that means.
Beautiful fall foliage, football, crisp Autumn days, hayrides, apple cider … all the good things that make this season my absolute favorite.
It’s also the month of Halloween — a time for all things creepy and scary and fun.
My plans for the weekend include heading out to Perryville Battlefield State Historic Site and the annual Commemoration of the bloody Battle of Chaplin Hill that took place there on Oct. 8, 1862, when more than 7,000 people were wounded or killed.
It’s a solemn but beautiful place set on pristine hills. I love to visit the park throughout the year to walk my dog and just get away from everyday life. It’s so peaceful there.
This weekend will be anything but peaceful, however, as re-enactors from all over the country converge on the site to re-live and honor those who sacrificed their lives…
